Charts and Diagrams

Instantly create Ancestor, Descendent, Hourglass and Everyone diagrams, as well as Family Historian's unique All Relatives diagrams. Diagrams are tightly integrated and used for browsing, exploring and editing as well as for creating superb wall charts. Click-and-drag to add relatives. Print diagrams at any scale or orientation. All diagrams are fully configurable and most options can be changed on-the-fly.

Smart Trees

Family Historians's smart trees give you unprecedented control over chart layout: hide, show, move, resize and re-order boxes and branches, and watch as trees automatically adjust themselves to reflect your changes.

Pictures & Multimedia

Add pictures, sounds, videos and any other multimedia. Insert a picture once and add links to each person in it. You can even link directly to each face in the picture, and show just faces in diagrams, without having to 'crop' your pictures.

100% GEDCOM

GEDCOM is the universal standard format for shared genealogical data; but application vary significatly in how well they support it. Family Historain is, the producers believe, unique in being 100% GEDCOM compatiable and 100% GEDCOM complete. That is, it can load all GEDCOM fields and can save all of its data to the GEDCOM format.

Search for your ancestors in websites across the Internet using Family Historian's Internet Search tool.

Reports

Family Historian comes with 28 fully-featured reports, including narrative reports, outline reports, summary reports, complete-record reports, the Family Group Sheet and more. All reports can be saved as web pages or as word-processor documents. Create custom report types using any existing report as a template.

Sources

Where did you get your information from? Family Historian makes it easy to record your sources with its automatic source citations. Copy and paste citations, and see at a glance the sources for each item of data.

Merge/Compare

Only Family Historian lets you compare any two GEDCOM files side-by-side so that you can see exactly where and how they differ, and how they will end up if you merge them, before you commit yourself to merging anything. You have complete control over the merge process. As well as files, you can also compare and merge dupllicated branches, and duplicated records.

Queries

A query allows you to extract whatever data you want from your family tree file — for example, ages at death of your ancestors in the 19th Century. Every query can be printed as a report, output to a files, or copied to the clipboard for easy transfer to other programs, such as a spreadsheet. If you want to split a file, you can use a query to define the split.

Create Custom Versions

Create custom diagram types, custom report types, custom queries and even entire sets of custom fact types, to record data about. Share your own customised features with others, or download and install custom features that others have added.

No Limits

Each individual can have an unlimited numer of spouses, children, and so on. You can store multiple, possibly conflicting versions of most items of data, such as names, dates, places, etc.; and you can assess the reliablility of each version.
