1911 Census for London: Paddington, Kensington and Chelsea
now available
The first part of the London 1911 census is now available at TheGenealogist.co.uk. Areas now available include Paddington, Kensington and Chelsea, with the remaining areas to be added shortly.
The 1911 census is thought to be one of the most important record sets, as it will show family records in detail before WW1. It will give details of where your ancestors lived, who with, their age, place of birth and occupation as you would expect.
Additional pieces of information included for the first time are nationality, duration of current marriage, number of children born within that marriage, number of living children and the number of any children who had died. Extra occupation information may show details of the industry in which they worked.

British Officers Taken Prisoner in the Great War 1914-1918
 Over 7,000 British and Commonwealth Officers were captured during the First World War, and with few records available for Prisoners of War during this period, these records are invaluable for researching your military ancestors.
List includes name and rank, date they went missing, where/when they were interned and the date of repatriation. For Officers that died or were killed, it also shows the date and place of death.
Contains Officers of the British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Naval Division, with regiments of the Indian Army, Canadian, Australian, Newfoundland and South African Forces.
Can be browsed by page using bookmarks or searched by name, and includes a Name Index. |

Some Officer POWs in Germany were allowed to take walks out of the camp and shop in local villages, if they provided their word in writing that they wouldn't escape. However some POWs were treated more harshly and records are available in TNA of those who complained of treatment in German hands. POWs in Germany could be sent to neutral Switzerland or Holland if they were suffering from physical or mental
illness in the final years of the war. Some were also permitted to live in hotels, could bring their wives to join them, and were allowed visits from sweethearts and relatives.
