New Records at TheGenealogist

The following records have been added to our Diamond subscription

New Tithe Apportionment Documents & Tithe Maps

New Tithe Maps for more English countiesA major addition to the National Tithe Records has just been launched.

We have now completed the Tithe Apportionment records for England and Wales with a final release of over 1 million records.

We have also released new Tithe Maps for more English counties. Joining the previously released maps for Middlesex, Surrey, Buckinghamshire and Leicestershire, are the counties of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Lancashire, Oxfordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire & Yorkshire.

What are Tithe Records?

The Tithe Records provide a unique view into our ancestral heritage by providing details of ownership and occupancy of land throughout England and Wales, revealing a wealth of information about people, places and landmarks in the Victorian era. Tithe maps allow you to identify the land on which your ancestors lived and worked in the 19th century. The tithe apportionments list the names of both the owner and the occupier as well as detail the amount of land, how it was used, and tithe rent due. These unique records are key to geographically placing where your ancestors lived and worked in these times.

Railway Workers

We have released over 62,000 Railway Worker records to our occupational collection, covering various years from 1905 to 1962.

Railway WorkersIt is easier than ever to delve into those who once worked for the Railway companies in a great variety of occupations all across the country.

These new records are taken from Railway Company Staff magazines. The transcriptions and images of the original pages can reveal to us important occupation related dates and very often may add some interesting snippets to a family tree in which your railway-employee ancestor features. We can find staff changes - where rail employees moved from one station or depot to another, promotions, pension records, retirements and obituaries.

  • British War Medal 1914-1920
  • Victory Medal 1914-1919

These new records include: Buckinghamshire, Caernarvonshire, Cambridgeshire, Cheshire, Cornwall, Cumberland, Devon, Durham, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, London, Monmouthshire, Northamptonshire, Northumberland, Shropshire, Somerset, Sussex, Worcestershire and Yorkshire.

The Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish RegistersSpecial Offer - 40% off

The Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish Registers

This guide to parish registers is now in its third edition, and covering England, Scotland and Wales, is a vital, time-saving tool that has become universally known as 'the genealogist's bible'.

The Atlas includes the famous county 'parish' maps, which show pre-1832 parochial boundaries, colour-coded probate jurisdictions, starting dates of surviving registers, and churches and chapels, where relevant.

Topographical maps face each 'parish' map, and show the contemporary road system and other local features, to help deduce the likely movement of people beyond the searcher's starting point.

  • Visual clue for family notes, pictures and events appears in the marriage fields in the family view.

Off the Rails - Trace Railway Ancestors before Beeching's Axe

Britain once had a railway network that was much much bigger than it is today. Before the 1960s you would have been able to travel down many small branch lines that wound their way across the country and linked areas that you need to use the road in order to reach today.

After the railway building mania of Victorian times, in which private companies laid down railway lines linking all sorts of towns to each other, by the 1960s a nationalised British Railways wanted to find a way to cut its losses.
